Module 2: Mapping Exercise for Smart Specialisation: Data Management and Analysis

The second training module of the “Capacity Enhancement for Development and Implementation of Smart Specialisation Strategies in Türkiye's Regions (CEDIS3)" project was successfully completed. The training was held online from 12th to 16th February 2024. More than 100 participants from the Ministry of Industry and Technology and Development Agencies of 26 regions attended the training.

Starting on 12th February 2024, Operation Coordination Unit Director Mr Mustafa Caner Meydan initiated the meeting, welcoming all the participants. Under the moderation of the Key Expert on Smart Specialisation Mr Nida Kamil Özbolat, the training was delivered for five days by Head of EU-Services at Prognos AG Mr Jan-Philipp Kramer, Managing Director and Knowledge Network & Lecturer at the University of Zagreb Mr Domagoj Račić, Professor Dr of City and Regional Planning at Dokuz Eylül University Mr Kemal Mert Çubukçu, and Assistant Professor Dr of City and Regional Planning at Izmir Democracy University Mr Umut Erdem. In addition, Economic and Policy Analyst at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission Mr Manuel Gonzalez Evangelista, participated and contributed to the training programme.

The training, named “Mapping Exercise for Smart Specialisation: Data Management and Analysis,” was mainly focused on establishing the evidence-based characteristics of the smart specialisation methodology, including quantitative and qualitative studies of key variables of a region's scientific, innovative, and economic potential.
